Personally I like color scheme, but feels like it doesn't match with Laravel branding. The name "Laracast" reminds me of "Laravel" rather than FORGE, so it made more sense when this site was coloured orange.

Other than that, I love the UX on this site. Very nice work : )

Look, I made my apologies on this forum. I accept that on occasion all of us, and I am sure you included can allow their mouth or in this case their computer fingers, get ahead of their brain. Additionally I have made a direct and personal apology to Jeffrey directly. Other than appearing on the BBC World Service and Flagellating myself I do not know what else you want from me ? So I think before you throw yet another stone, you might just chill out.

As to the site: There is a golden rule, a real reason why multinationals are very, very careful about using dark black on any of their branding collaterals. And it has nothing to do with whether Jim, or Sally or Pete likes it or not and pleases their eye on Monday morning.

A coding screencast thumbnail is not the same as an Amazon or Ebay listing. The lesson blocks look a lot better than the awkward blue + brown background that I had before.

And further, in many cases, it won't be a black background. Right now, I'm using a static screenshot, but that will soon be a random snapshot from the related video - like this:

Can we please just let Jeffrey get on with the design, and stop moaning about it?

Awful lot of back-seat driving in this thread.

The design seems fine to me, but then I'm here for the content, not to argue about colour schemes.

I miss the old color scheme, and the dark navbar at the top was also better than the current one IMO.

The lesson block is neater, I like it. This comment text area in which I'm writing right now could have a border though, it took me a while to realize it was a form input. But I hadn't use the forum before, so I don't know if this part has changed.

@bashy Great initiative! I'll check it out later as I love your Dark Blues theme! Thank you.

Edit: Already using it now.

@vincej - Not directed directly at you fella. It was more to do with (what I felt) was a slightly brash comment later in the thread.

I totally agree it's easy for non-verbal communications to get interpreted incorrectly.

I really like the new semi transparent lesson thumbnails ! They add colour and great interest to the new site. The back ground feels less stark now as well. Great choice. Great Addition. Love it again ! :o)

All changes are wellcome and (mostly) for the better... What I really miss from the old site is the search functionality:

  1. Search autocomplete was awesome. I have discovered many lessons from the suggestions. Please enabled again.
  2. Searching from the landing page! Now it needs +1 click...

cheers!

Once I got used to the new layout, everything felt nice and smooth. Only one (quite tiny) gripe:

Middle-clicking on the lesson text to open it in a new tab fires the click event on the parent tab (Windows 7/Chrome), loading the lesson in both tabs. Middle-clicking the full lesson box does nothing, but single-clicking it loads properly. Ctrl+click exhibits the same behavior.

@JeffreyWay, any chance for an eventual fix? Thanks so much for all your hard work!

You might get more of jeffrey's attention if you where to repost this under site improvements .. just a thought.

Very true. If he doesn't see it here, I might eventually get around to making a thread. All things considered, it's a really really small bug :-)
