Can't Laracast be free? :(

Are you serious? So you want Jeffrey to work for free? Do you yourself work for free and not get paid? It's as cheap as it can get for such quality content.

If you don't have a card, then ask someone who does have. Please show some respect for the author of this wonderful project.

Hi @MarkMatute I can understand the behind of your request, but only one question. Are you paying for the connection that you use to connect to the internet and get resources as Laracasts? Then you should understand that today only a few things are free in the world. Imagine that you call to your internet provider to get a free internet connection.

If you need a credit card you can simply get a free virtual credit card on http://www.mywirecard.com/en/mastercard.html Because in germany the credit card isnt a common payment i also signed up for this free virtual cc and it works fine.

Take some personal responsibility and go find a card from all the options above...If you can't invest in your own education don't expect to do well as a developer or any other endeavor. So tired of seeing people asking Jeffery to make his stuff free when he already has a ridiculously low price and does a ton to help all of us including stuff beyond Laracasts like Elixir, Laravel packages, podcasts, other talks...

Show respect for people who give 10x the value of what they charge.

Laracasts is 100 times better than going to university so go get your card, invest in yourself and start learning here!

For crying out loud there are tons of free videos that he gives away plus tons and tons of free videos on YouTube on various laravel subjects, you have got to be kidding me. Not to mention if you have a question more often than not someone will give you a good answer right here on this forum.

People are upset because the entitlement attitude irritates and ignores the obvious hard work put into something like this site.

I called my mortgage holder and asked if my mortgage could be free. They laughed, said they'd transfer me to the person who handles such requests... then hung up.

Life sucks.

I guess the likes of Salman Khan, Hank and John Green (of Crash Course) has pampered people too much with their high-quality free content.

I think there is no right or wrong in being free or paid, though ultimately, it's Jeffery content and we should respect his decision on what he wants to do with it. Be it charging for it, playing ads for non-subscribers or completely free.

Laracasts would be a great deal at 3x the price. I'm amazed and thankful that Jeffery makes it available for such an affordable price! =)

I think Jeffery has really hit a sweet spot for membership fees of $9/month.

It really isn't expensive and it really helps to grow subscription rates. Making it more expensive like $20/month means that a lot of people who aren't heavy video watchers, who really don't see much value in the content spree that Jeffery is targeting at the moment, or who have gotten what they need would just walk away. I really think that the current price is great because it's like being able to have hulu and netflix or even Amazon Prime at the same time; increase the fee I'll drop one if the content isn't compelling enough to warrant the tiny blip on my credit payment invoice.

For those people who probably don't realize that it was just recently that Stripe has broadened their acceptable credit cards. I couldn't sign up for Cartalyst back in the day even though I had 3 credit cards!!! The country I lived in just wasn't being accepted by a lot of western credit processors even though the Major Credit cards where located there.

I do agree that asking for "free" content is rather ridiculous but is there a need to being out "pitch forks" to crucify every person who brings this up? Is this the how you want Laravel to be represented?

I guess that the point is, that products in our industry are mostly immaterial assets. That leads to situations when some people think that there is no "real" value behind it, compared to bread, book, table, car,... If anybody asks for a free car, you'll consider him a fool, but asking for a free screencasts is no different in my mind. Some people make them for free, which is great, but the quality may vary. Here you are paying $9/month for high quality screencasts which help you solve most of the problems you'll have to deal with. It's basically free for the value it provides since I'm sure that you would spend much more time browsing SO or google to get the information provided in any short video here - Laracasts really pay for itself.

Friend , Even i don't have money and card to buy subscription on Laracasts (I don't even have money for college ) but i will never ask @JeffreyWay to make laracasts free because he does hard work for it . I'm very happy that he made laravel 5 fundamental series free . We should be thankful for that .

In my honest opinion, Laracast is better than a book and the cheapest framework training you will ever find. It's like "crack" for php laravel programmers!!! :) If you need a card, get a prepaid reloadable debit card...

I do believe that the "no card" situation is somewhat legit. Not that anyone should ask Jeff to give his content for free. I'm personally paying for someone from Romania to have full access to Laracasts, not because the person doesn't have the money, but because Stripe doesn't take cards from many countries around the world, including Romania. Perhaps this would be a good time for @JeffreyWay to think about implementing a more "international" form of payment, such as PayPal.

In some parts of the world a credit/debit card is not really an option. I agree, Jeffrey's service is worth a lot more and I would not hold it against him if he wanted to up the price, but there are those out there who can't get it because of a mere technicality, not because they don't have the money - or don't want - to pay for it.

Unfortunately free Laracasts means less new content. Jeff has to go work for someone else and has less time on his hands. I know it sucks to not be able to pay for the site but you have to appreciate the other side of the coin here.
