Series Request - Security / Encryption?

I know there are a ton of resources on the web in regards to this, but I would love to learn what the "best practice" is in regards to storing data that needs to be encrypted. I have read through the serversforhackers.com site, and encryption techniques in PHP...but it would be nice to have a soup to nuts series on encryption as a whole - from a Laravel perspective. From accepting the data into your website, storing it in the database, pulling it back out again, purging the data using jobs, etc, etc.
