I think that Jeffrey initially plan should work as the way you described, as this make more sense, i guess perhaps this is a bug that everyone even he himself had overlook until you raise it...

Laracasts: Set discussion thread drop downs to both be selected
@JeffreyWay It would be nice to be able to use both drop downs in the discussion thread, simultaneously... for example to see the Laravel posts that also haven't been answered. It seems you can't select one without it resetting the other currently.
I know you hear this a lot, but I really appreciate all your work. I literally would not have the job I do right now if it wasn't for you. Thank you!
