Best Place To Learn PHP?

Hi Everyone, I've been learning PHP for a few months now and I'm dyeing to learn Laravel.

First, I wanna strengthen up my PHP skills. I've been watching Jeffery Way's Tuts course on PHP, really good and I've been also learning from w3 schools (okay i guess). For some reason I find codecademy.com gamified format to be somewhat annoying.

However I really like to read books or just good written online tutorials. For whatever reason, the older screen casts/non HD videos with code give me a huge headache after a while.

For example, the book "Learn Ruby the Hard Way" is super clear, easy to read, and even has an online version.

Any suggestions?

Thank you! Really looking forward to checking out your answers and leaning on your experience.

I like oriely for books and udemy for videos. Watch for sales (udemy has $10 sale on now). Really get going on the basics. But almost all build basic apps with witch you need to try and understand the purpose of the code kinda on your own. Very few that I found go through the language and explain how to use features etc.

Though JavaScript, udemy has a course JavaScript the wierd parts, is by far the best course that explains features and how to use them. I haven't found one for php.

Once you play around and are able to find solutions on your own via reading the php manual you are above the average developer from my experience dealing with devs personally.

I recommend this one: https://leanpub.com/php-pandas Didn't read it through, but read the first couple of chapters (to see what it was like). I really liked the writing style and humor of Dayle's laravel 4 book, and this one seems to be just as good.

If you plan on using php for a living and are dealing with large sites and databases, you should also learn c++.
