Excellent work, Jeffrey.
I've been here for a couple of months and haven't posted in the forum once. That's going to change now.
While watching this thread, a few things stood out to me:
- even though the text is large, is isn't as legible as it could be. Perhaps a cleaner font would help?
- When navigating through multi-page threads, it's not immediately clear that the page changed, as it shows the original post first (which is good!). Perhaps something to mark the first post as the original post on subsequent pages, and below that indicate the page you are on? I find it helpful to confirm expectations to the user to let them feel comfortable and reassure them of what they are looking at.
I agree re. your thoughts on a series for this: forums are very intricate in their relationships, not only between the different types of objects in the forum, but also from a permissions perspective. Lots of auth-relevant stuff that goes into this.
Good, now get this working in the comments. That was my biggest pet peeves. 3 different accounts for 1 site. :)
Edit:;
When making this post I noticed that it just reloads the page or redirects to the same page, maybe tack on a anchor tag so that it takes the user to their comment.
Yeah, makes the community feel much closer to the site now, really like this.
Cracking Job Jeffery, for me the only thing I would request is having a channel for testing as I can see allot of questions on testing...
+1 for like button and for forum making series :)
What do you use to transform the ```Php to the nicely formatted stuff we see?
@jack - Just a simple Markdown converter.
Loving the integrated forum, it would be great to see a series on building it.
How about indenting replies and definitely a +1 to like a post
Loving The Forum, it's minimal and clean. Great job @JeffreyWay
Okay, I just pushed a "Like" system for forum replies. Should be fairly self-explanatory.
@JeffreyWay Great stuff see the thumps up, how ever, on click nothing seems to be happening
edit...
Disregard my post seems to be working now
@JeffreyWay Another idea: I saw you talk about notifications in navigation bar, maybe we could be notified when one of our posts receive likes.
@foxted - Yeah, maybe. Before that, I definitely want to fire off emails, if somebody references your username. That shouldn't be too tough. Will knock that out tomorrow.
@JeffreyWay, another suggestion, when browsing forum maybe where it says last updated 20 minutes ago could be added by who ? like updated 20 minutes ago by JeffreyWay etc...
I've also noticed that even if there hasn't been a new post and someone liked or thumps upped a post response it will show that the post has been updated, is this intentional ?
The forum looks clean, well integrated into the site! Top work, Jeffrey.
Good job Jeffrey, congrats
Nice, I like the integration with the rest of the site. Good Job!
First of all: Great job! This new forum looks really nice! I also would love to see some lessons (or even a series!) for this :-)
But just a little tiny question: Is it just me or is the sort order for the replies within a topic messed up a bit? For example, in this topic i see this ordered list of replies:
- ...
Is this intended?
@rephluX, I get the same. I'm guessing it's because some posts have been edited at the new time.
Yeah a series to see how this was created would be very cool.
Congrats Jeff!
Forum looks great! I'd love to see a series on building a forum with all the relationships that come with building one.
Awesome! Was wondering when this was going to happen :)
Congrats on the new forum! It looks promising, can't wait to see how it develops in the future.
LIGHT YEARS ahead of the old forum. I can't wait to flub through THAT series and screw everything up on my local and then blow it away again and again until it works.
Another suggestion, Go to newest posts feature. This thread moves pretty quickly. Last time I looked at it it was just on page 3, now it's on page 4. I have no indication of what posts are new since my last viewing of it. That'd be nice to see.
Nice work Jeffrey (y) Keep it up. My suggestion is to add smiley.
