It's a subscribed and paying user. Seems to be a new attack method.
How is this user using lary
How is this user ( https://laracasts.com/@DysonJen ) creator of this post linked using lary, their profile isn't right.
Was laracasts hacked?
@JeffreyWay Really annoying... Maybe you should implement, a feature where the user is blocked from creating new threads for 24h or so if they get more than x threads marked as spam within a few minutes.
@JeffreyWay yes I noticed the profile is completely different then other users. Did they bypass paying somehow?
@jlrdw No.
@Tray2 We have that now. It was originally only for guest users - because I assumed a subscribed user would never do this - but I adjusted it earlier today.
@JeffreyWay just curious, did they join today? They now have nothing showing here:
https://laracasts.com/@DysonJen Like other users do. Shouldn't more info be there?
@JeffreyWay I wonder if they are going to try to reclaim the money? ;P
@Tray2 My guess is that's what they do. Subscribe with real money, publish a bunch of spam, and then dispute the charge a week later and get their money back.
@JeffreyWay So sad, gives you more administrations for nothing
@Tray2 I miss my old dbase 3 and msdos days.
@jlrdw MS Dos, so many fond memories, hacking away at config.sys and autoexec.bat to optimize the memory usage.
@JeffreyWay How do you want threads reported?
I mean I noticed that they use multiple accounts now, one creates the thread, and others are replying to it. Do you want every reply and thread reported or just the threads?
I'm thinking threads and individual replies to catch more spammer accounts in one go.
@JeffreyWay, update the site policy for spam and include it with your charge dispute rebuttal and win the money.
@jeffreyway introduce a quota for new signups per day, and close down the scammer accounts
You could have the top 10 be able to delete "real spam" (Not a question not liked).
Maybe a soft delete or a flag set, the the Laracasts team could review.
I know last night was one of the worse amounts of spam I've seen in a while.
Also @jeffreyway are you sure in those spams, they aren't embedding malicious code in images or videos with a mouse over type event? Are post checked for malicious content?
Just curious.
@jeffreyway you didn't restrict new signups then?
This current situation is seriously damaging for Laracasts. If you don't allow anyone else help squash the spam then you are putting it all on yourself.
@Snapey No, I didn't restrict new signups over the weekend.
Everyone who reports a thread is helping to squash the spam.
Seems like they're trying some new tactics that gets through our spam prevention, so I'll work on it more today.
A lot more today, would someone from the team please look at the current spam?
I just reported 30+ threads as spam.
