Server Sizing.

Hi

I'm trying to migrate an application away from a managed hosting provider into Forge or Vapour but I am unsure as to the size of droplet/resources that I will need. My feeling is that the current hosting is a bit of a rip off, especially for the performance that we get.

Anyways... I've found some stats from the current hosting providers for the busiest month of 2022 and was hoping someone might have some insight into what the best course of action might be in regards to hosting, image storage, CDNs etc etc.

Thanks in advance!

As far as digital ocean, it would be fairly easy to scale up when needed. Of course if it is a huge app with a lot of traffic you could use load balancing. Digital ocean has many help articles on all these topics, and it's covered in the newest forge video series from here.

@jlrdw Thanks for coming back on this. Given the above data do would you be able to guestimate the cost of a droplet that would be sufficient to handle the traffic/bandwidth, or how I would go about working this out? I don't know if it should be the cheapest droplet or a more expensive one. For reference I believe the current hosting is costing around £200.00 per month.

Thanks again for your help!

@jlcain3 they have a guide that kind of gives you some estimates, but don't forget you can always scale up if needed.

Just a suggestion but look at using laravel Forge also, it would make it so much easier to do these things.

@jlrdw Yes I think forge is definitely the way to go. I have decided to setup a call with Sales from Digital Ocean to get their thoughts on sizing etc, I will write back my findings so that anyone looking for similar in the future can reference this thread.

@jlcain3 I can also recommend giving ploi.io a look. Its the same as forge but has build in deployment if needed (and some other nice features)
