High Performance laravel-echo-server

We are currently using Pusher to run about 1000 connections and 30m messages per day. It's pretty expensive. So I am looking at rolling our own solution using laravel-echo-server on AWS. Has anyone had experience running something with that many messages and connections with laravel-echo-server and maybe on AWS? I haven't done any testing, so just kinda interested if it would be significantly cheaper. I have no idea what kind of server resources that much scale would take.

I like the idea of paying a premium (Pusher) so I can just forget about another server but it's getting to the price point where we might want to explore other solutions as we continue to grow.

Thanks!

Can you share your experience about your solution? What did you decide to do in that situation?
