Billing options for OpenAI API

Hello,

I don't understand how it works with the billing options for OpenAI API. Can somebody help me ?

For example this line.

Tier 1	$ 5 paid	$ 100 / month

What does it mean ?

If I pay for $ 5 I receive up to $ 100 ?

But it's the same if I don't pay ?

Free	User must be in an allowed geography	$ 100 / month

I have checked and I am in an allowed geography (France).

But ChatGPT doesn't explain me why I can't access to the free tier.

According to ChatGPT answers and what I have read, there is probably a problem with my account. I should be able to access to the free tier.

@tisuchi I have all the needed informations from the support of OpenAI.

If somebody is interested in understanding how it works, here is a summary for Tier 1.

Tier 1	$ 5 paid	$ 100 / month

To entry into the Tier 1, a client has to pay $ 5 per month, it's like a subscription fee.

Then the client can consume up to $ 100 API per month. And to avoid over-consumption, it's limited to $ 100 per month.

This means that to consume $ 100 API, the client has to pay $ 5 + $ 100.
