I have not noticed him mention the particulars about what he uses other than Sublime (maybe VSCode now), mysql and Valet. That would be a good question to ask him though. I can pretty much guarantee that he doesn't use MAMP though.
What environment does Tayloy Otwell use? MAMP, Docker, Native or what?
Hi Guys just curious about what development environment setup Taylor uses? I am currently using MAMP with vhost in my MBP. Any tips which is better and faster? Thanks! :)
@ejdelmonico Why can you pretty much guarantee he doesn't use MAMP? Because he uses Valet?
Ask him on Twitter.
Already asked him on Twitter and hopes he reply. Cheers! ?
@MARKNT15 Why?
@martinbean because I wanted to know the efficient development environment setup and adopt it.
@marknt15 Horses for courses.
Copying someone else’s set-up isn’t going to immediately make you a better or more efficient developer, especially if it’s introducing something new and unfamiliar to your set-up. It’s just going to make you frustrated as to try and “match” someone else’s productivity.
Instead, experiment with tools yourself. See what makes you more productive. The types of stuff Taylor’s working on (frameworks and packages) may mean he has a set-up that’s great for that type of work, but not so for “regular” application development.
@martinbean thanks for your reply and I understand your point. I will try and compare different development environments to see what's good for me. I'm eyeing Laradock now since at work we use docker and Symfony 2.
But I still wanted to know Taylor's development environment setup out of curiosities sake :D
@marknt15 Well, first of all, it really doesn't matter what you use. Just use whatever tool makes you comfortable and doesn't slow you down having to configure it for the project. As you gain more experience, the tools you use will be chosen most likely on efficiency and dependability. For instance, Valet makes it so easy to use that you forget it's even there. All you have to do is make a quick DB for the project and place the DB login info in the .env and boom! you are off and running. And, that goes for just about any project. Of course, many folks are migrating towards docker for dev work. All in all, use what works for you.
@ejdelmonico Taylor already replied to me in Twitter and he said Valet.
