I never had that issue with PHPStorm, and if I did, I would just restart it.
I've been running it for over 33h now and it uses 2.81GB of memory.

what editors do you guys use?
I'm currently using PHPStorm, which is over all pretty great, just a bloody memory hog.
The more I use it during the day the slower the computer gets.
Just curious to see if anyone has had any success with any others that work just as well?

Just buy additional memory for PHPStorm, this software will pay you back with it's ultimate usefulness.

PHP Storm has issue with memory and indexing all the time. Despite that, no doubt, PHP Storm is one of the best chooses for PHP Developer.
However, you can tweak your setting to improve the performance of PHP Storm. Check here:

Alternatively you can use VSCode / Cursor - AI Driven editor (Paid).

thanks everyone this seems to be the general consensus with my work mates too
I use vscode but I am not really satisfied with its support for php, even with extensions
