Does anyone use Sketch?

If no, why not?

If yes, why?

I've used it for initial designs, but not to the point of slicing up the real thing.

For one project I used it in conjunction with InVision as had to go back and forth a bit with the UX design, but haven't really used it much since.

I use Sketch. It is great! I used to do designs in Adobe products but sketch nails it somehow.

It is easy to create a single document with all the designs and versions for your different pages / content types or even mobile devices.

It has a very simple layer system where you can group elements, transfer modes and tints and what not. Super fast workflow.

It has a super intuitive colour swatch palette with Global colours and document colours.

It is created for web design. You have grids (that you can tweak) it translates very well when you need to code the design, guide snaps, center align, distribute elements...

You can work with quite detail in vectorial elements, like create icons and stuff.

You can export ANY element super easily. So you create the design and the stuff you need to export, press on the right button and it can be a PNG or SVG in seconds. LOVELY.

It is very good, best money I have ever spent in a non adobe product. Much much better than balsamiq or anything like that. Try it now.

PS) I am not affiliated to them in any way. Just think they deserve the credit.

PS2) I happen to also love my Adobe Creative Cloud and I use it a lot. But for web design there is no turning back. In fact Adobe are creating an app that tries to get the "Sketch" vibe but it is too simple at the moment. I think it is the "Experience Design" or something like that.

Ah - right. I've seen it before but I don't really do much in the way of front-end stuff that isn't just bootstrap/bulma/whatever so it's not something I'd get much use from.

Nope. Tried it but seemed a waste of time. Rather just built my theme with sass and good old fashion web browser.

I've tried it, and others it always seemed at the end of the day almost twice the work. Always some issue once you tied everything in.

@hannasdeli , do you have use of the Sketch stuff in the actuall codes or is it just for making design to look at?

hannasdeli's avatar

@peteric: It is just to design and to export some of the elements like icons, image backgrounds, etc. If you are going to work just with one webapp or design maybe you can use a framework or create your own theme. On the other hand, if you work with design for several customers or inside a larger team and need to present different proposals... it is a great little design tool.

It does not produce code at all. Just mockups and finished designs that you can export by parts.

Sketch is a great tool for designer, but it's not a tool for developer, and it is so expensive.

Yeah, i use to design in my head then code it accordingly but i was curious if one could have any use of Sketch as an "middle layer".

Im going all in with UIKit now and if i find all symbols to Sketch so i can just drag and drop all kinds of UIKit stuff into Sketch then it might be useful?

Can i use Sketch to design vector logos?

@peterlc affinity is also a great design tool and you can do vector logos. affinity.serif.com

@peterlc yes you can use Sketch to design vector logos, but you're still somewhat limited in comparison to tools like Illustrator. Sketch is for designing web and mobile interfaces (preferably).

I use Sketch daily, would never go back to Photoshop for design.

i use affinity photo and affinity design and i'm super happy with those i just wonder if sketch is better than affinity design when it comes to vectors?
