Best ... I don't know. For me the 3 one you names are good, personally I use DO & OVH.
Best place/service to Host a website
I'm looking into my own website but I'm not sure which setup of domain / Hosting is the best, I was looking at GoDaddy, Name.com, and DigitalOcean for the Hosting. In your opinion what is the best bang for my buck?
The website would be a online store. I'm inexperienced on the topic and don't know which service would be best.
It is going to be very subjective, so don't expect a definitive answer.
Generally, very generally, you get what you pay for, so cheap cPanel-type, shared hosting options will be okay up to a point, but the lack of VPS flexibility will likely become a pain point eventually, especially if you are continually developing and deploying features.
Choosing a VPS option puts more work on you to manage server security, patching, DNS, etc. etc.
So the best option ™ is up to you, your experience, your tolerance for doing/learning tasks other than PHP/Laravel development
I've only even used like a cpanel type thing at my work but they have a dedicated server, I don't even know what a VPS is 😅. I guess I'll say this is a beginner project, not expecting a huge amount of users or anything like that right away.
2 ways to manage totally personal servers :
- physical host at 'home'
- virtual host (VPS) in the cloud (rented to a specific supplier)
That said, you can also setup vps on your physical server and have vps at 'home' ...
A dedicated server is always the best, but cost more, and you almost need a good I T team for maintenance.
Places like large insurance companies, UPS, FedEx they're not going to have a VPS they are going to have large banks of dedicated servers.
Trucking company I used to work for had a dedicated server.
A VPS is still basically shared hosting, believe me you're not the only site on that server.
Shared hosting like GoDaddy it's okay up to a point but will be limited and you're not going to be able to have tens of thousands of hits on a lower-cost shared hosting.
Digital ocean might be okay for you because you can upscale when and if needed.
Just my opinions and my thoughts on it.
Just me personally I do not like a vps.
I was looking around and reddit's webhosting subreddit recommends 4 sites nixihost, veerotech, iwebfusion, and knownhost. These are shared hosting which is cheaper, I think that is the route I want to take taking my budget into account.
https://www.nixihost.com/hosting/shared
https://www.veerotech.net/shared-hosting
https://www.iwebfusion.net/shared
https://www.knownhost.com/shared-hosting.html
These all look similar to me idk about the specifics, which one or these or another one would you recommend?
If you want affordable dedicated hosting
hetzner.com
If you want cheap awesome hosting:
linode.com digitalocean.com
can an email be setup with digitalocean ? like [email protected] ?
You can if you know how to set up an email server. IMO it's better to use something like Google or Microsoft Exchange to host your email (allows you to use your domain name). There are free email hosting providers out there too if you're willing to be limited on mailboxes/storage space per mail box.
@wilk_randall can you elaborate what you mean by mailboxes, for the moment it would only be one email like I described [email protected]
When I say mailbox, I'm referring to an email address, i.e. "email1@domain.com", "email2@domain.com"
