Forge .env edits not saving?

I'm using forge, all good, no real issues up until this point.

I changed the domain and the env APP_URL remains unchanged. I edit the .env within forge, click save and when I go back or refresh, nothing has changed.

Am I doing this wrong? Is there a "proper" way to do this? It's driving me insane.

Sounds like it has been cached. Rewrite the cache

php artisan config:cache

Should've said, I tried that and it wasn't working.

Have since edited it through cli and now works within Forge itself. Perhaps it was an ownership issue?
