It would be really good to have a link to the last page of a conversation to view the latest comments.

Edit: Nevermind. I found the link is the timestamp on the conversation. Thanks @JeffreyWay

@brian.wells - Clicking the number of comments to the right of the post on the overview page will take you to the latest comment.

Or the "x minutes ago" timestamp on the main page will do the same.

  • Mark all posts (in current category) as read
  • Filter to show unread only

As the forum grows quickly this would be helpful in keeping track of new posts.

Not sure if these where already suggested:

  • filter for showing only the discussions I've posted in
  • view a discussion in a single page (e.g. to quickly find if the suggestions I'm making now have already been suggested by someone in page 3, 4...)

@JeffreyWay I can't read the whole thread (sorry if it seems lazy but I'm actually at work) but a few things that would be handy for me personally (not sure if anyone else agrees)

The link that says "GitHub-Flavored" below the post reply takes you specifically to GitHub and away from the post. It would nice to either have it brought up in a modal box for reference or even a new tab/window.

Also the ability to easily quote a message would make it a lot easier to keep track of who someone is responding to as well as what particular message someone is responding to.

All in all I love the new set up and I can't thank you enough for offering such a great service for so cheap!

Edit: Also when you make a new post it would be nice if the page it took you to was the newest post page. For example, I posted this message from the second page of this thread and it kept me there instead of taking me to my post.

Again these might be good ideas or they might be bad but I figured I'd throw them out there in case someone else agrees and you @jeffreyway think it's a good idea. :)

Edit 2: Another thing that might be handy is on this page when a user selects from the "Pick a Channel" menu it could give a little sentence describing what that forum is for. For example, I'm unsure what the difference between "General Discussion" and "Off-Topic" is. To me, in a traditional forum the "General" forum is for off topic discussion. Same goes for "Requests" and "Site Improvements." Is a request a request for help? I assume it is since there is a "Site Improvements" section but it can be confusing, especially if you're in the middle of debugging an issue as a newbie and your brain is already friend.

Anyhow, just my $.02. :)

The requests section I believe is for requesting topics for new casts, but I agree that some more info about that the sections are intended for would be useful. Maybe on hovering on the link, or with a line or two when selecting a section.

I would also like to be redirected to my reply after posting, since I often want to doublecheck the layout of my post before moving on.

edit: Whoops, like this time. Turns out I forgot an extra blank line so the quote got mixed up with my first paragraph. :)

In the old forum they had a Q&A section, and the Request were there to make requests for new lessons (see here).

In the new forum the section Q&A is gone, instead we have the Offtopic section. They don't really fill the same purpose though.

I think the intention now is that Q&A has become General, and the old General section has become Off topic

@JeffreyWay accidentally marked an answer as a "correct answer" is there a way to unmark it?

It is not, can you add it in the future to your TODO list?

@JeffreyWay Please add date localisation. Middle endian dates are only used in the US and are difficult to read at a glance for lots of people including myself.

Adding auto sluggized names for file downloads like "282468570_string_calculator.mp4" for quicker saving videos. Thanks

@JeffreyWay - The forum has improved with the filters, extending it to channel filters would improve the experience imho. So we can search channel specific: popular threads, answered/unanswered etc.

This may be a bit far out but maybe creating sub channels for Guides/Code Review/Tips

Adding a project review, so we can read through projects of each other to help improve and learn.

How to update an existing version

You have to use assembly language or dBase 3 or Google it.

When I visit the profile and I saw my recent replies, it would be nice a direct link to the reply.

@jefferyway I am very new here so I can’t offer any input to your question, however, I wanted to chime in and ask, what did you use to build your forum, was it Laravel? Also you have done an amazing job. I am hoping to utilize your videos to actually learn PHP programming and after watching one of your free series I felt that your teaching technique may actually help me achieve that goal when compared to other learning sources I have tried. I am hoping to learn enough PHP programming here that it will help me to transition away from WordPress and into Laravel as my main go to application for building websites and applications. With that said, I really want to send a huge kudos to you. Your website is beautiful and so far the videos I have watched have been very informative.

I think the forum would benefit from reducing the links font-weight from 700 to 500. Bold links are OK for mentions, but with longer URLs it just looks wrong.
