Awesome work on the new forum! I hope the archived old one stays up for a good while because there is lots of good info there. I keep meaning to spend a day or two reading through it and taking notes from other peoples Q&A :-)
Nice...really like it.
Didn't know where to put this, but if you go here: https://laracasts.com/discuss?page=2
You will notice that the pagination for going back to page 1 links to page 2 instead
Really good work with the forum! I'll be sure to hang out here a lot more.
This was really the reason I were not using the forum before that extra account to create for the same site. So far this all looks good and a lot of great suggestions on the forum here so far for improvements. Great work here.
Any chance you'll spin this off into a package?
I second that notion from @truthmedia. A Laravel-based, simple forum, would be awesome. Open source it and see it blossom :)
Possibly! If I do, I'll make it into a series for the site.
I now using the new system and its more comfort to me the new system than the old one.
Possibly! If I do, I'll make it into a series for the site.
Now that would be so damn awesome!
@JeffreyWay HI Jeffrey i'm currently learning your codeigniter series and i'm in the middle of it then found your site laracasts where you have a series for laravel i'm literally confused whether to continue with CI Series or start with Laravel Series Please suggest me waiting...
@naveenthally - That Codeigniter series is really old. Don't bother with it. Laravel is an infinitely better framework.
@JeffreyWay Thank you Jeff I'm going to start with your Laravel Series Today
Nice job with these stars indicating the subscription plans. They were horrible yesterday when I was looking, but this is really spot-on.
Not really sure what are the badges for?
I like the chessmen, is it right that they indicate the count of your posts?
If yes, could you please say when they changes?
@ax3l - Yes, you upgrade your chess piece, as you post on the forum more. Next bump is to the knight, at 25 replies.
Might be worth thinking about keeping the levels a secret... otherwise we might end up with people posting rubbish replies purely to hit the next level
@JeffreyWay also, one other quick request (didn't want to create a whole thread for it) be nice if in the forum list, if clicking on "Last updated 7 minutes ago" beside the thread name took you to the last page.
At the moment it's a little tedious to have to click into a thread, then click on the last page of pagination to get to the end of the thread.
Awesome work though, well done
Love the new forum. I always disliked the lack of integration with esotalk. Which is why I was working on an esotalk plugin and accompanying laravel/sentry code that would do nice integration type things :). Your option is also great.
I have a couple of points though.
1) The information density of the main listing is just really low. On my screen I can see perhaps 6 or 7 threads and have to scroll a lot. I love the whitespace in general but in this instance I feel it's at the sacrifice of usability.
2) I have no way (that I can find) to have a different display name to the one I registered initially. I usually have a different forum name to what I tend to create as a login (which this was before it all switched to emails).
Thanks and good job!
@duellsy - Done.
@blueajcooper - About #2, right now it's locked to the username that you signed up with. You can change that from your account profile page.
Thanks for that :)
Can't wait for a lesson on how the forum works, its something I have been struggling with for weeks and you forum it amazing !!!!!! Great work as normal
Looks really clean @JeffreyWay
If the source for this beautiful forum ever turns into a repo, I'll be sure to contribute pull requests.
Doesn't look like @ URLs are linking to profiles at the present time. Nope, scratch that... It was a period at the end of your username.
Loving the new forum @JeffreyWay
Not sure if this has been requested already: When @ replying someone, it would be nice to have a list of people in the conversation popup. I believe disqus does this.
I didn't get what the chess piece was until I made it to page 6 on this thread - maybe it should have a tooltip.
The font size for posts is way, way too big. Similarly, the thread list view is too padded - I get 7 threads on a page, vs 15 on the esoTalk.
Nicely done @JeffreyWay. Any chance this will take over for the Disqus comments? Or even do SSO with Disqus.
https://help.disqus.com/customer/portal/articles/236206-integrating-single-sign-on
@kreitje - At some point, yes, it'll replace Disqus.
@Vusys - I'm not a fan of 12px text for reading.
@JeffreyWay, could we could permalinks to comments in? :)
@danharper - I'm literally adding that right now. haha.
