Forum index page

This is one of those occasions where you wish you had a screenshot of the page as it was before.

So, as far as I can remember, we used to see a few lines of the post from the index? No more.

We used to see the full title ... no more, long titles are now truncated ... unless, you are on a smaller screen where the full title is still displayed.

Below 1320px wide, we get the full title, but unfortunately on smaller screens we end up with a horizontal scrollbar, and then when sliding the page up and down, you also slide it left and right...

I wish Jeff would get an iPad so he can see all the issues with that size screen !

And - oh please, don't get me started. I hate this pinned input box. The longer the response, the less and less you see of the original thread.

I really like the new pinned input box :D This way I can keep scrolling back up to the original question and already give responses and still seeing my own new reply. However I'm doing it from a MacBook with a pretty big screen, I can imagine that on an iPad it might not fit anymore.

I believe this is still in the works, must be why there are some issues with responsiveness.

Also, the reason for the shorter titles and removal of the excerpt is that it is easier to scan through the content now. Sometimes, posts displayed code directly in the excerpt and provided no real value to identifying what was in that thread. Now it is a bit easier to scroll and scan through a lot more content faster.

Granted, the title is shorter but it should be pretty clear what's in the thread.

Yes. the pinned input box's purpose is so you can scroll up and still see the original question, especially if it's a long thread and you need to quote parts of it or other comments. There's a solution in the works for minimising the window so you can navigate easier.

Fine on laptop, but very difficult on smaller smart phone. I hope he comes up with something. Now I am having to open same post twice. One to reply another if I need to copy from original.

@tuds it would be helpful if the reply input box size was vertically adjustable, or stops growing vertically after 10 or so lines of input. As your response grows, so does the size of the content box, which covers up the post behind that you're trying to reply to. It's fine for short responses. To test, just reply to this thread and start entering a bunch of blank lines. The reply box will grow towards the top until the posts behind are totally covered except the top most 3 lines of the page, making it difficult to have a more lengthy reply and go back to quote or look at the original posts.

Having the ability to minimize the reply box would also fix that problem.

truncating the title only happens on the widest screen which is a bit backwards?

_adrian's avatar

@CRONIX - Yup. Totally aware of this and it's noted down and a solution is planned, like you mentioned. Just a lil' bit longer.

@Snapey - Erhm... I think that's a bug. Most likely because this is still in the works.

have you seen what some people put as the title?

@cronix meanwhile get a laptop sized smartphone.

I know not applicable.

I hate this so much, sorry. The excerpt was quite useful...

@MUSA11971 @Snapey - In that case, there's this little toggle on the main thread view now, right next to the search, that switches back to the old view. So whomever prefers the different views can switch between them. The rest of the addressed issues are in the works too.
