SimplePie is the best I've ever used. It's well maintained and fairly robust.

As an exercise of digging into laravel development, and composer packages, I've just created a simple laravel 5 service provider for SimplePie: https://packagist.org/packages/willvincent/feeds

I've just finished fleshing it out a bit more, it now provides some config for the simplepie caching settings, as well as a facade.
