As for books..

• Head First Design Patterns, would give you a solid understanding of several (not all) design patterns what they are, how they work, etc.. it's not php specific, but then neither are design patterns. ;)
• PHP Objects, Patterns & Practice is php specific.

@willvincent thanks for that ... I will check out those books ... I haven't actually seen the videos on here, but i will now, im only just getting started so its all a bit daunting

Jeffrey explains things better than most books in my opinion, so definitely start there.. if you're still new to php and especially OOP, you should probably go through the OOP bootcamp series first, then the design pattern series will probably make more sense. Add the SOLID principles series to your list too.. after the design patterns.
