Hello, I'm new here and I have a question. Is it too late to change careers at the age of 40 and enter the IT field? Specifically, I'm interested in PHP and Laravel. Is it worth learning programming given the expansion of AI?
Personally I would say yes. I am 43 and self taught. My job is working on php/laravel projects. I don't currently fear ai that much. I see it as helper tool but not something that will take over programming completely any time soon
It is never too late to learn, and as @sinnbeck says, AI is a tool, and if used properly it will help you rather than replace you. It will take many many years before AI can write programs in a good way, and way longer until they can modify existing code, and write tests for said code.
It's never too late to learn something new. I entered this industry at 37, and the IT field is quite welcoming in that regard. That said, focusing only on PHP and Laravel can be a bit limiting, but everyone has to start somewhere.
And don’t worry about AI—it’s just a tool to assist you, nothing more at this stage.
