Never used Herd, but accordingly to the documentation https://herd.laravel.com/docs/1/herd-pro-services/service-versions
but you can always install very specific versions by downloading them from their vendor or by using Brew or Docker.

Laravel Herd - MySQL 5.7
Laravel Herd comes with MySQL 8.0.36 by default, but is it also possible to run it on MySQL 5.7?

I’ve submitted a feature request. In the meantime, I’m using ServBay for MySQL 5.7. Feels a bit redundant, doesn’t it?

@davidvandertuijn I would suggest giving dbngin a spin, it allows for easy installation of "any" kind of db.
