deployed laravel app/nova to server - 403 Forbidden

please help, I just deployed to my server which is nginx, when I go to the path of my NOVA or Laravel root, I get: Server Error 403 Forbidden You do not have permission to access this document.

I have done all the usual stuff, composer install artisan migrated etc

I logged in via ssh and ran

sudo chmod -R 766 

on the root directory

I'm still getting the error, please help
