^ Exactly. If you want Laracasts to be free, I have to go work somewhere else. That means, you'd get a couple videos a month, rather than 20+.
And I make two or more videos a month free, anyways. So same thing for you, if you don't want to sign up.

It is free...
You are paying for the ability to login & @JeffreyWay throughs in the other videos for free behind the login that you are paying for.
I thought that this answer is as valid as the question.
In the past I used to like free.
Now I'm distrusting free, because I -want- to pay for something which has real value and I -want- to pay for something, whether it's Laracasts or some software or a service, so I'm sure that person or company is being paid/supported for his/her/its work and so it continues to be supported or developed.
@JeffreyWay yeh you are completely right. But for example i'm 33 years old person and i work completely for free most of my day... i'm self-stading person and your project was help me a lot, but i already spend every planned resourse and cannot leave everything only because a lot of things done and i love this job.
In my case i can't pay because $9 is not small price. I live in Donetsk region of Ukraine in city which called Makiivka. I don't think that you know something about it, but there is already 3 years we have something like hybrid war here. And for example i can't leave home after 11:00 PM, we don't have banks, post office and so on... there is no job for software developers here. And not a lot of job for others. Yes there is a freelance, but i'm still learning and not so easy for my (also with my english level find customers, i hope i will handle it in near future). I can't leave this place because i live with mother and grandmother and i can't leave them alone here. They can't survive alone. My family members recieve benefit from governments (in $ it's 38,42 for grandma and my mom $27,66, i can earn a little more, but freelance for me is not stable.. for example in last 4 month i have earn about $650 ) and we are not so poor people here... a lot of people have less. So $9 is not so small price... i think you understand better than me, that laracasts available not only in Europe or US, but all over the world.
So all what i want to say is a little description of why not everybody pay and asking questions like this here:
Please sorry for my english and again - thank you for your hard work here !
I guess some people want housing, food, transportation, everything for free, but I have worked "HARD" my whole life to "EARN" what I have. Some people have no shame, scary!
@jlrdw work hard? i know a lot of people who have job and work from 7AM to 10PM 6 days in week. For about $100 - 150(in month). And in our city a lot of people recieve humanitarian relief, so yes food for free... You are lucky man and leave in place where you have job, and you recieve money for you job. There is a lot of place in this world where people work for food.
So try to understand, when you tell me about hard work, i can tell you about miner's in Donetsk who work more than 12 hours in condition where normal people can't survive (here is this guys: miner's after job), today here thy recieve about $20-30(in month), yes they must recieve more, but nobody pay for them... they tell no money... just give some for food...
So hard work? Tell me more about hard work in office near computer ))). Why i describe all this? Just because you must understand world is big, the person who ask for lesson for free maybe try to find last chance for survive... and this is without joke.
@artem I've got nothing but admiration for you - I hope things get better in your country. I've got a Ukranian friend and I've seen her in tears watching the news from back home :'-/
Hi @artem
I really do hope the situation in Ukraine will get better too and wish you the best for you and your family. I live in Ukraine since Feb 2016 in Kiev and your country is unfortunately a battlefield for reasons above my understanding. If you have a blog (even in ukrainian) I'll follow you. Дякую
@mdecooman, @ohffs, thanks, i hope all be fine. After 3 years of life inside conflict zone (if you know something about this conflict i can just describe a little better, from my home to Donetsk Airport 22 kilometers) everything looks simple and not so bad. Life is possible in any place. And sorry for now i'm not ready for any blog just because i respond not only for myself and any kind of word's can be understanded differently and one of my friend already spend about 6 month in the basement of new government after post in social network. I think will be a lot of blogs and stories, but after all be finished. For now only people who far from here tell stories, because they in safe.
@artem sometime I forget where I live is different from some other places. But do remember, even here we fought for freedom many years ago. Any "peoples" can do the same, some just don't get together and fight for what's right.
Those courses may build your future career, why they would be free?
