There are alternative likes running your own solution like socket.io (scroll down a bit) or using websockets. Note that both might not work on shared hosting because of the port stuff!

Alternative of pusher
Hi,
I have my website spotytomp3 currently on the shared hosting. I have implemented pusher successfully but it allows 100 max connections. But I have more traffic. I also checked pusher premium plans which is like 49 $. It is expensive as i'm a student and not earning much. Is there any good alternative of pusher available at low price ?
