Laravel Herd Fresh install and Breeze project with livewire

The result is not what I expected. The site launches but its broken because I have to run npm run dev. However, isn't Herd supposed to handle that for me too? I'd love to not have to install node on my mac globally. I was hoping node would have been installed like php.

Am I doing something wrong?
