Stripe vs Paypal

This is not really a comparison . Stripe offers several payment methods while Paypal is one payment method. It depends on what your users want. But the choice should be between a service like Braintree or Stripe . Braintree offers Paypal as a payment method.

I've found that people do ask for Paypal when it's not there. Most people will pay by card, but some will only pay by Paypal.

I think getting Stripe running first is a good option, and maybe adding Paypal later. Or use Braintree and get both.

Stripe is pretty good for developing (although even they have some rough edges). I don't know about Braintree.

It will very on type of business and whether they feel comfortable using their api.

Stripe has a very nice api and me personally I feel stripe's api and tools are friendlier compared to Paypal's. Again this will mainly come down to what your business type is.

Stripe will save you a lot of headaches. Stripe documentation is simple and clear with code samples in many different language. It is also very easy to switch back and forth between production and testing environment.

I worked with PayPal 2 years ago. The documentation was terrible. It was difficult to work with. I was happy to switch to Stripe and use it with every project and never look back to PayPal.

We've been using Stripe for a few years and never had an issue with it, our customers don't seem to mind it or to be missing Paypal.

We've used the "Stripe Checkout" for a while and then moved to a custom form, the users are not unfamiliar with the Stripe Checkout form and when you're using a custom one, the payment processing platform is totally transparent for the user so they have nothing to be confused about.

I wouldn't want to deal with Paypal again. Stripe's documentation is very complete, and their customer support is excellent.

Most users are completely fine with card payments via Stripe, especially if your checkout looks clean and trustworthy. PayPal anxiety tends to show up more with one-off purchases on unknown stores - subscriptions are a different dynamic.

That said, your instinct about adding PayPal later is solid. Launch with Stripe first, get your core flow working, then look at your drop-off data. If you're losing users at checkout, that's the time to add PayPal as a second option - not before.
