Design Patterns, Java, Math, Graphs, and write code a lot!

I second the Design Patterns.

Also:

  • testing..... TDD is really handy when you work with multiple people in 1 project.
  • git (know as much as you can)
  • IDE (try out a few different IDE's if you haven't yet, find which one works for you and master it)
  • Different persistence layers, not just MySQL, try out Mongo and Elastic for instance.
