Laravel and Laracasts has achieve tremendous and deserved success, to the point of moving into a certain mainstream. Which means, becoming more and more of a lightening rod of other peoples' psychology and pressure.

Someone asked in Laracast if anyone knows of a L5 ecommerce package available for free download. I am right on schedule to start my own L5 ecomm package ("LaSalleMart") in the second half of this year. It will start as a port (am I dating myself?) of my Joomla 3.x ecommerce extension.

I've been down this route before, and basically, a huge reason I am not going to release it as FOSS is because I brook no patience with the abusers. When I ran a free support forum for Virtuemart a million years ago in 2010-ish, I got but a taste of what Jeffrey and Taylor are experiencing.

I am a subscriber of this site because I am deeply motivated to learn all that I can about everything that Jeffrey offers on this diamond-in-the-rough and uniquely superb Laracasts site. As well, it is clear that Laracasts itself is a hand-crafted site built with love, and it is a pleasure and education to note the site's progress.

Furthermore, in a way that is easy to take for granted, Jeffrey and Taylor are making an effort to "get out there" by appearing on a myriad of podcasts. I can be cynical as much as the next person, so it's easy to conclude that they are hyping their wares. However, they are giving of themselves, letting out their personalities in a way that a true huckster would not dare.

I hope that Jeffrey and Taylor continue to publicize the abusers. Silence is not the best response, in my opinion.

I also want to point out that no fellow subscriber is responsible for the pressures of the people posting questions. I am noticing a trend where posters are demanding answers. I do not mind sharing tips, on the premise that when I have a question I will similarly be assisted. However, sharing is one thing. Demanding answers to assuage your own particular pressures is another.

Finally, someone asked someone else to create a package for them, as that would be most convenient for them. Um, you create the package, that's what FOSS is all about.

Sometimes I think it's time for Jeffrey to bifurcate his forum: serious people can subscribe to a more restricted forum. Or, maybe it's time for Jeffrey to plaster Laracasts with a Terms of Service and start kicking people out -- yes, kicking people off their subscription.

I applaud Jeffrey for starting up and maintaining Laracasts; and, for making a particular effort to remain in the public eye. It is not without its downside...
