From shared hosting to VPS

Hello, I'm working with shared hosting and FTP to publish my websites (PHP/Laravel). At this moment I'm looking for a VPS solution (such as Transip). My concerns are security, emails, ... How do you manage this on your own without losing the focus on development? I would change to VPS so I would have less work to deploy, not more... I've been trough the lessons of Forge but I don't know if it supports Transip?
