Securing my site with Forge

Hi, I have an app that I need to secure. I know I need to obtain an SSL. This is my first time handling this (I'm a developer, and usually another team would handle the server side and ssl and such) I am managing my site via Forge and all. I see that there are multple ways to add in a SSL cert to secure the site, but my question is, From your experience, what is the best and cheapest way to obtain and apply a ssl cert to a forge site so that I can secure it.

Thanks,

Use the letsencrypt option. It's as simple as a button press, and it's free. It's not a self-signed cert. You'll get the green lock icon in all browsers.

DUDE!!!! (YOU ARE AWESOME)

That was EASY!!!

This worked 100%

So whats the difference between letsencrypt and paying for a cert?

Depends on what kind of cert. Letsencrypt doesn't validate your ownership or anything, so it might not be good for ecommerce type of stuff (EV cert), but outside of that not much difference to my knowledge. Letsencrypt is the first, that I know of, to offer free certs like they are. They are only valid for 3 months though, but they autorenew (Forge handles this).

You can goolge "ssl certificate types" and see the differences.
