So long as you've got Laravels support class:Str in scope (use Illuminate\Support\Str;), you could do the following (it's a bit hacky, but it gets the job done):

You use to be able to hook into model events, such that you could register a callback which would be executed before the record was saved, this was quite a while ago though (Laravel 5.2), so I would suggest reviewing the documentation if you're not happy with the above implementation.
