Need Project Ideas to Build My Resume & Improve Skills

Hi, I know the VILT stack, and I’ve worked on projects before, but none that feel good enough to put on my resume. I’m still pretty new, and honestly, I don’t even know how good I actually am—I want to test myself too. But I feel like if I don’t have solid projects to show people, it’s almost like I don’t know anything, even if I have the skills.

I’ve been thinking about project ideas to add to my resume. So far, I’ve considered things like an eCommerce site, a job board, a project management tool, or a live chat app. The problem is, I struggle with coming up with the full design and functionality on my own. If someone told me, "I need this, and I want it to work like this," I could build it—but starting from scratch with the planning and design is tough for me.

So I thought about looking at free open-source projects—not to copy the code, but to really study how things are structured, what features they have, and then try to rebuild them myself. That way, I’d have a clear idea of what to do, and I could make my own version from scratch.

Do you have any project ideas, examples, or templates that could help Or maybe a better way to improve my skills and make my resume stronger? I’d appreciate any advice

I also struggle with the idea process. One place to get ideas can be the laracast series themselves. One that has helped me is thinking of something that I am looking for.

Case in point, I have found resources for a particular field lacking for new comers. Create a resource site for it, that's one I am working on. It doesn't have to be perfect, and treat it as a learning experience. I spend more time looking up how to do things than I do coding.

If you want more details on some of the applications I'm working on and maybe some ideas, feel free to contact me.

Here is a good starting point:

One way is to consider something you would personally use or find valuable. Perhaps something connected to your past jobs, experiences, or hobbies for instance. In short, take your inspiration from what you know. I've found that generating ideas is much easier when referencing our own experiences rather than searching elsewhere.
