Looking for a (paid) Laravel Mentor

Title: Looking for a Paid Laravel Mentor for Long-Term Project

Hello,

I am embarking on a long-term project and I'm keen to make sure it gets off on the right foot. I'm looking for a Laravel expert who can:

  • Review planning documentation (Backlog, UX flow diagram, rough database design, etc.)
  • Conduct code reviews to catch any issues early
  • Discuss implementation approaches and design patterns

Essentially, I need a guru to approach when confusion sinks in to ensure there is not a need to majorly refactor in the future for something dumb.

Tech-wise, the project will involve:

  • Onboarding flow with external KYC and eSign providers
  • Subscription Billing
  • Integration with the Airtable API as a data source (possible 2-way sync)
  • A couple of scraping requirements (with another API) for official filings (PDF OCR and data extraction)
  • Notifications for time-sensitive situations

I'm an amateur in terms of Laravel but am putting a significant amount of investment into Laracasts daily. I have been in the tech industry for a few years so am relatively well-versed in language and the planning side of things (I think).

I would ideally be looking for someone who is happy to speak relatively often (say twice per week - maybe more maybe less) over a 12 month + period as developing context awareness would be very valuable.

If you are interested or know someone who might be, please reach out to me with your experience, availability, and rates.

Thank you!

It sounds like you're looking for a comprehensive mentorship to guide you through your Laravel project. Here are some steps and advice to help you find the right mentor and ensure your project is on the right track:

  1. Define Your Requirements Clearly:

    • Make a detailed list of what you expect from the mentor. This includes the frequency of meetings, specific areas where you need help (e.g., code reviews, design patterns, etc.), and any other expectations.
  2. Search for Mentors:

    • Laracasts Forum: Post a detailed request on the Laracasts forum. Be specific about your needs and the compensation you are offering.
    • Freelance Platforms: Websites like Upwork, Freelancer, and Toptal have many experienced Laravel developers who offer mentorship services.
    • LinkedIn: Use LinkedIn to search for Laravel experts. You can send them a direct message explaining your project and mentorship needs.
    • Local Meetups and Conferences: Attend local Laravel or PHP meetups and conferences. Networking in person can sometimes yield better results.
  3. Evaluate Potential Mentors:

    • Experience: Look for someone with extensive experience in Laravel and the specific technologies you plan to use.
    • Communication Skills: Ensure they can explain concepts clearly and are patient.
    • Reviews/References: Check for reviews or ask for references from previous mentees.
  4. Set Up an Initial Meeting:

    • Discuss your project in detail.
    • Clarify your expectations and see if the mentor's expertise aligns with your needs.
    • Agree on a schedule and compensation.
  5. Tools and Resources:

    • Project Management: Use tools like Trello or Asana to manage your backlog and tasks.
    • Code Reviews: Use GitHub or GitLab for version control and code reviews.
    • Communication: Tools like Slack or Zoom can facilitate regular communication.
  6. Sample Code and Documentation:

    • Prepare some initial code and documentation to share with potential mentors. This will help them understand your current level and the project's scope.

Here is a sample post you can use on the Laracasts forum or other platforms:
