Use of the Laravel logo
The Laravel logo seems to be trademarked in such a way that a solo developer can't use the logo on their website to advertise their services, unless they become a Laravel partner. Does anyone know if that is correct?
@gych Thank you. I already read it. I just want to be certain I'm understanding it correctly. It seems to be saying that any commercial use, including offering development services, requires permission.
This would confirm your assumption that you shouldn't use the logo in relation to promoting your services
Any commercial use including for any services related to Laravel such as providing training services, conference services, or design services (should you wish to provide such services, please contact us beforehand to explore Laravel's Partnership Program);
@Snapey That's what I thought, but it seems very strange.
@douggough Why? The logo is trademarked. If Laravel doesn’t control how the logo is used then they’d lose the trademark.
@martinbean I have no issue with them having control over it. I just don't understand how/if I can put Laravel on my Services page and promote myself as a Laravel developer for hire.
@douggough Like the trademark policy says, and like multiple people have told you now, you can’t. It’s not your logo. And it’s not “strange”. Any company with a trademarked logo—such as Disney, Starbucks, McDonald’s, etc—will tightly control who can and cannot use their logo. If they’re not seen to be enforcing their trademark, then that trademark can be cancelled.
@martinbean Sorry if I offended you. I want to be absolutely sure I'm not misunderstanding because it IS quite different from other widely use PHP projects.
@douggough I’m not offended. But you just seem to be struggling to grasp that you can’t use a company’s trademarked logo without express permission from that company, which you don’t have.
@martinbean I guess I'm struggling with the problem of how to let people know that I offer Laravel development services. And I failed to understand the difference between the trademark usage rules around Laravel vs the platforms that I'm used to, which are Drupal and Wordpress.
@douggough You’re free to say you offer Laravel development services. You just can’t use Laravel’s logo to advertise yourself or your services.
Regarding this, does anyone have a contact for laravel, just to clarify some un-commercial laravel logo usage for open source IDE plugins ? I looked through all the official pages and nothing. The only contact I found was : [email protected] .
