Laravel with Digital Ocean Spaces symlink question

Hi All, I am switching my project from storing images on my server to a DO space. I am a bit confused about symlinks when it comes to this. From my limited knowledge, symlink provides a security measure so your images in public could still be visible to the public but accessing the storage folder is impossible. Saving to spaces means symlink no longer plays any part right?

Yeah a symlink is just making a copy of a folder on the disk that updates in real time (sort of). You don't symlink an external disk

@chrisgrim Also be aware that do spaces are not available in your public folder as it isn't on your server

@Sinnbeck do you mean in terms of accessing the images? My front end is built with Vue so I don't use Laravel to access my images.
