If xampp do they have instructions, I believe most people just install a newer version of xampp.

Think you would need a real Linux machine to do that

But I suggest dump data, install new xampp and import data. Just backup your htdocs folder first.

I do this every 6 months with bitnami, (similar to xampp). It only takes a few minutes.
