Laravel 10 Simple Sass config with vite please

I am running round in small circles reading lots of articles and laracast posts about how to configure Laravel, vite and css. Naturally nothing works. Also the documentation is sorely lacking in this area.

Please can someone come up with the basic steps on how to configure

Super simple stuff but in an effort to make things easier you actually made things stupidly hard. Please help me avoid having to reverse engineer vite to figure this out.
