"Let's Build a Forum" tips

Hi.

I distilled some PHP/Laravel code tips which cropped up in the great "Let's build a forum" series.

Someone on Reddit just pointed out that this could be a bit dodgy - taking info from a paid site and putting it out there for free. I just wanted a notepad to save these tips. Hopefully they will be useful to others, and their being on a blog not objectionable to Jeffrey Way. But I'd be interested to hear others' opinions, and of course if JW objects I will take the posts down.
