Laravel Register form isnt working

unable to register a new user using laravel auth default registration. When providing with all values to the form or submitting an empty form i got this error on the screen : ''Something went wrong. Please try again or contact customer support." and the console sales :

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)

I don't know where to look for to solve this problem. That was working just fine before.

Just go to the log file and have a look what is going on.

The file location is /storage/logs/laravel.log

You will get an idea why it is happening.

did you run php artisan make:auth on top of the spark install (which already has the auth built in)? Does your error log provide any clues on the 500 error?

app.js?id=bcc81a219c78a96b5d74:559 POST http://127.0.0.1:8000/register 500 (Internal Server Error)
rameezisrar's avatar

@Cronix i did run this command at the start and I had registered a user and i haven't changed anything i.e not the auth controller nor the user tabes and yet it gives me this error. nothing on the log. nothing about 500 error

AvaneeshSingh's avatar

Now check dev tools from the browser and go to network section. Check which request is resulting in 500 error (That request will have no response there.).

Try to figure out from there and share it here as well.

@avaneeshsingh @Cronix under my dev tools/network tab

Request URL:http://127.0.0.1:8000/register
Request Method:POST
Status Code:500 Internal Server Error
Remote Address:127.0.0.1:8000
Referrer Policy:no-referrer-when-downgrade
Cronix's avatar

@abudo keep looking in the network tab. There should be tabs showing the headers, cookies, parameters sent, the response received and a few other things. Click on the one that has the error and look at the right side of the panel. It's different for different browsers, but they should show more info than you posted.

@Cronix , the response is this

Also, you should not have run make:auth. You might have messed something up despite being able to register a single user. Spark already has the auth system in place.

Cronix's avatar

Check your code. It really looks like you have a dd(something) or a dump(something) in your code somewhere, since that's the javascript that those commands produce.

rameezisrar's avatar

@cronix dd() command has been used on my custom controller function which i have already commented. The issue is something else as i havent placed anything on app.js via mix

Cronix's avatar

This wouldn't have anything to do with app.js. Laravel also doesn't have any dd() or dump() in their code, so it had to come from something you put somewhere. Check the controllers, views, etc. Using dd() or dump() (they are php functions) produces that javascript code so that you can click on the arrows to open/close different sections of the dump.

Also try running php artisan view:clear to clear the view cache.

rameezisrar's avatar

@Cronix i have verified there is no such dd() command on my controllers and view and i have clear view cache too. There is not even a log error.

Ok, I don't have any other ideas then. I just know that the code you showed is coming from a dd() or dump() command somewhere. That's the only time it would ever create that js and laravel provides those helper functions for developers, but doesn't use them anywhere on its own.

You can make your own regular controller method, retrieve a user and dd($user) and check the source of the generated html. It will look almost identical to what you showed, except contain different data specific to the user you retrieved.

@Cronix thankyou for your support. I really appreciate that. I will let you know if i can find something, keeping in mind what you told me.

Cronix's avatar

If your project isn't too far along, I'd delete it and reinstall following the guide, and NOT run php artisan make:auth. Or maybe just create a new fresh project instead of deleting, and copying your custom code over.

As I mentioned, it has it's own auth built in and it's not 100% identical to the one with a stock laravel running make:auth. You might have overridden some spark routes when you did that.

@Cronix just tell me one more thing. Can it be possible a dd command from another controller which only works/created when the user gets login can break this registeration form of laravel auth?

Cronix's avatar

Couldn't say. Doesn't sound like it, but who knows. I'd use your IDE's search feature and look for all dd and dump commands and remove them/comment them out.

@Cronix well you were right my friend. I just commented out every dd() and it is working now :) Thankyou
