I think the linter just runs 'php -l' - are you sure your sublime is pointing to a php7 binary?

Sublime Linter for PHP 7
Is there a version of SublimeLinter that supports PHP 7? I can't seem to find one, and I'm constantly getting flagged for syntax errors when using the new PHP 7 syntax..

That explains a lot haha. I just update PHP on my mac, and everything's working now :)
