My latest project

For my latest project I created something very simple, yet powerful for myself, personally. Since I have no discipline and can hardly ever keep promises I make to myself, I created something to log my daily activities. Using a thesaurus I changed the words "log" and "journal" to something that sounds more sexy, or silly: "Memento Almanac". xD!

Anyway, here's some screenshots:

Just basic bootstrap stuff, but it does the job for me. A lot of times I downloaded nice looking admin panels, but this time I wanted to get something done, and instead of working on the looks, I worked on the back-end.

A lot of times I promised myself to wake up in time to walk the dogs, and not just for 5 minutes in the back yard. So I've added a log for "waking up". Same goes for my dogs, after I walk them in the morning and evening for at least 20 minutes, I am allowed to push the button "walked dogs". Same goes for healthier eating. A lot of times I tried eating a healthy breakfast, but that never sticks, so I've added an option for that, too.

The goal here is to later add a statistics page where I can get easy overviews of what I did, or did not do, for each week, or month. So this keeps me motivated to actually get things done the way I want them to. Started with it today, and so far, so good. The "Fed Dogs" button is a silly one, but I wanted to have some extra stuff to get used to working with this app.

I can create logs manually, but also add new "buttons/links". I only have to change the input fields to dropdowns for "color" and "icon".

And basically the page I work with most, is this one:

I needed some quick action buttons to log my actions fast each time. I will post the code on github later so people can suggest improvements, and newbies like me can maybe learn a thing or two from it :)

My new project

Yesterday I've started working on a new project, something bigger this time, for my girlfriend. She is her own boss, but doesn't have a website yet, or something to work on her administration. Since she's a nurse (home care), I'm building an app to keep track of clients and invoices. This will be the basics, but it's not too simple for what I am envisioning. I will also work with PDF files, something I haven't done before, so it will be interesting, but I'm not scared :)

@RonB1985 great idea, you learn and motivate yourself to live a healthier life. And don't worry about the PDF, it's not that difficult ☺

I am still thinking about what to create. I kinda feel like creating an app using apis from some company since I have never done that.

What's good about knowing how to code with Laravel is you can quickly create pretty much any kind of website

@36864 I can't see any difference? What browser are you using?

It looks nice. But I think the images are too sharp and detailed. But definitely, I would want to try it!

I am currently working on a reporting tool.

Currently collaborating with a friend to build a job portal. This is my second laravel project and I seem to be enjoying the experience. I intend to spice it up with some awesome functionality :D

@Snapey RotaRota looks awesome, but it looks like you missed a word in your "About" section.

RotaRota is a site to enable organisations [to] coordinate the efforts of their volunteers

Keep up the good work.

@36864 I normally don't worry too much about those without javascript as usually other stuff breaks. I do object to Comic Sans turning up in the site's title though!

Thanks for pointing it out, I will be adding some better fallback fonts.

I'm toying with a few.

I recently rewrote my wife's main web site using Laravel. I need to get around to her secondary site after October.

I've been up & down writing / re-writing a defect tracking application for the company I work for as I try to learn Laravel and Vue better. I think in the end, this one is a waste of time. I mean, our current system is homebrew, ancient, and craptastic. We're not going to buy one, so that's out. But our IT manager hates Linux with a passion so he'll never deploy what I write either. (Maybe if I can figure out how to do scheduled events on Windows...)

Finally, I'm working on a character generation and management web app for a table-top RPG that I enjoy playing. This one is a huge learning experience because of all the weird one-off rules embedded in otherwise neatly aligned design. This one is probably a dead-end, too, because I doubt the publisher will be interested in a partnership where I do all the work and they take a portion of the profit.

My latest project is AdGoalie - a simple web filtering service. It's a relatively simple project built on Spark, but I believe it has promise.
