Umbraco vs Laravel and why?

Hi there!

I wonder the differences between Umbraco, specifically https://uskinned.net/ versus say Laravel and Filament or and Statamic.

What are the pros and cons and why?

I can't find anything about this on google, and I'm sure there will be bias here on Laracast but I wonder what is your opinion.

Or do they server different purposes?

I personally think from my own experience with Laravel you can write some code and get a site up in like a day if you know what you're doing, and if you get used to Filament, you can get the dashboard done in a blazing fast time too with full customisation.

So what do ya'll think of this?

Unskinned looks more like a wysiwyg way of creating webpages, a bit like a CMS.

Laravel is a php framework where you can basically build any kind of application, not just a homepage.

@Tray2 Yeah, you're definitelly right. It looks like a total theme builder, not a fully fledged framework like Laravel, I wonder if you can expand that and create something more custom, without it turning itself into a WordPress site that powers a dating app.

So far I have no luck finding anything useful on this. I think that's the first downside using Umbraco/uSkinned, the community/articles don't seem to be there - but maybe I'm bad at googling.

It seems like Umbraco Unskinned is equivelant to Statamic for Laravel.

The uSkinned landing page isn't the greatest already for me, and community for Umbraco/uSkinned seems non-existent, so that seems quite a negative off the bat, if I were to choose that tech.

i would love to move away from wordpress to either craft or octobercms in laravel but dot net will not be the thing to add to our offering but yes i love umbraco and seen some great sites built with umbraco

@webjobs Based on more reserach, I feel like PHP has a better more modern ecosystem than anything else.

It can synchronze well with other things including say TailwindCSS and work in harmony with designers, front-end devs and back-end devs.
