Starting out
How would one go about creating a development environment? I have watched some of the Forge video's, and he talks about your cold be uploaded from a git repository.
What I am asking is I want a development code, Production code. How does one set up the same experience as digital ocean. Does one develop code locally and have a test website that can only be seen by the developer.
I am new to Laravel, PHP development and cannot seem to find info on setting up a working environment.
Any guidelines would be appreciated.

I second @zachleigh's suggestion. I followed that series to set up a Vagrant/Homestead VM and it is pretty straightforward.
