The reply left by 'dwoodard commented on Mar 4' may be the answer you are looking for with reference to updated cross-env paths.

looked at this thread before and made some changes.

What version of Mix are you using? I am trying to cast my mind back to when I had the issue because if I remember correctly an update to Mix solved the problem. It may be worth updating Mix.

So in my package.json now it reads:

Have you tried to update your script to

"dev": "cross-env NODE_ENV=development node_modules/webpack/bin/webpack.js --progress --hide-modules --config=node_modules/laravel-mix/setup/webpack.config.js",

and also to update to "laravel-mix": "^0.11.4"?
