Laravel Valet issues working with WordPress

I got a brand new MacBook Pro and I was excited about moving from Homestead to Valet and to be able to use it also for WordPress projects (as it is supposedly supported).

The thing is that WordPress sites running on Valet are quite slow, and WordPress can never connect to wordpress.org servers. Enabling Wordpress's debug mode throws the following error:

Error ocurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server's configuration. If you continue to have >problems, please try the support forums. (Wordpress could not establish a secure connection to WordPress.org. >Please contact your server administrator.)

That's probably slowing down the WordPress installation, and it also doesn't allow me to update the core, plugins, and themes. Not even install themes or plugins from the dashboard.

I tried everything I could find in the Internet about this, from reinstalling to check the Firewall and change DNS, but nothing worked out. It seems a common problem, but with no working solution for everyone.

I hope someone can help me with this, because I think some of you guys have it working, and I would like to manage to do it too, or I will just have to uninstall Valet and use Homestead again as I was doing in my Windows computer... :(

Have you had this problem before? Did you solve it? How?
