Yes, you need to know php. Laravel is php. Whatever you do, you are writing php code.

Let's just say you wouldn't have asked most of the questions you have on this forum if you had a better understanding of the underlying language that Laravel is built with.

During my studies I learned to program in various languages such Java, C+ and Visual Basic.

Seems if you really programmed in java, you would not have even asked that question. Sorry not saying you didn't, just strikes me funny a java programmer asking that.

But java is vast, so many branches, like welding, many branches.

Looks so strange. If you start as WordPress Developer, you should have to know PHP. WordPress is based on PHP functions.

You Don't need to learn PHP if you don't want to Learn Laravel.

First You have to know what you want to become.

• Web Developer
• Mobile App Developer
• Game Developer
• Desktop App Developer
• Whatever Else.

Then, you will know either you want to learn PHP or Not. :)

If you want to become a Web Developer. Learn PHP or Ruby or Python. If you want to become Mobile App Developer. Learn Java or C# or Swift. If you want to become Game Developer, Learn C# or C++ or Python or Java
