Digitalocean droplets or app platform?

I am planning to start deployment on digitalocean for personal project. I don't have experience with deployment so I am searching how to deploy and confused what to choose. Based on what i found app platform make deploy easier than droplet. Is there any downside of using app platform? Should I go with app platform?

I also found blog post from laravel daily https://laraveldaily.com/post/how-to-deploy-laravel-projects-to-live-server-the-ultimate-guide. The steps in the post is little overwhelming for me.

I don't want to use forge if possible because I don't want to use money for both forge and digitalocean for personal project and want to get experience on deployment using digitalocean.

Appreciate for any advice.

Personally I use droplets, and I use the free tier at ploi.io to set up the server. I use it for my blog :)

@Sinnbeck Thank for your answer. I checked ploi free tier which is good but limited to 1 site. Seem like I need to do all things myself with droplets to deploy multiple sites on one server.

@AungHtetPaing__ yeah I use it with the free tier for a personal project. But I also have the paid version for real sites
