Wordpress intallations fail

I use to pull up new digital ocean servers and manage WordPress sites. I have multiple servers and dozens of WP sites running smooth. As of today, I'm not able to install WP on any of my newly created droplets, and I can't figure out why. Fresh DO droplets, PHP (5.6/7.0/7.1) all fail on WordPress installation step 2. I see “WordPress database error Unknown column ‘wp_’ in ‘field list’ for query SELECT wp_” in the nginx logs. I tried older wp installers, raising max_execution_time, different php versions nothing is working. The funny thing is on older servers which I made earlier the installation in running without a problem.
