Thanks heaps for the response. As i looked for the defined Gate classes, i found 3:

Illuminate\Auth\Access\Gate.php

Illuminate\Contracts\Auth\Access\Gate.php

Illuminate\Support\Facades\Gate.php

As i can see these all are namespaced, not global? I might be wrong, excuse my naivety. I am coming from Yii1.1 where everything we used was in global namespace, so not an expert in namespace concept.

Also, in the app.php config file there is any entry for Gate 'Gate' => Illuminate\Support\Facades\Gate::class,, which points to the Gate Facade class. That class does not define any of the methods that we can call on Gate, but the first Gate class, which implements the Gate interface, has the implementation of all these methods. Could you kindly explain in short, how does Laravel map the Gate facade to the Gate class that implements the contract. There must be some place where it is binding the class into the container?
